NORTH SHORE WATER
BOARD'S ANNUAL MEETING PROVISIONS IN ESTIMATES Estimates for the year were submitted to the annual meeting of the North Shore Boroughs Water Board yesterday by the secretary, Mr. A. E.
Wilson. Provision was made for a "deficiency" levy, estimated to realise £445, the amount payable by Devonport being £376 and by Northcote £69.
Receipts are expected to total £733, of which £2BB will accrue from water charges at the rate of id for each 1000 gallons of water. Expenditure will include £445 for liquidation of overdraft, £IOO for administration and £IOO for lake cleaning and treatment.
Water drawn from Lake Pupuke during the year was reported to be satisfactory, Mr. Wilson added. A total of 277,044,400 gallons was pumped, compared with 263,535,966 in the previous year. Devonport and Takapuna consumed 234,320,900 gallons, and Northcote 42,723,500. The Mayor of Devonport, Mr. H. F. W. Meikle, who was re-elected chairman of the board, referred to the peculiar difficulties connected with the management of Lake Pupuke. He said few boards had been faced with such problems, but as members were conversant with the position he felt confident that they could continue to deal with future problems.
