GENERAL RAIN LATER Tho weather report and forecast for New Zealand issued by the Government meteorologist last evening were as follows: —A rather deep westerly depression is approaching across the South Tasman Sea. The forecast is for northerly to north-westerly winds, moderate to strong south of New Plymouth and Napier and reaching gale force in places; elsewhere light to moderate but - freshening. Seas rough about Cook Strait and rising south of Farewell Spit and about Fovcaux Strait; elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong north-west to westerly winds reaching gale force at times in tho southern portion; seas rather rough to rough. The weather is N likely to be fine at first in the northern half of the North Island. Elsewhere cloudy to overcast. Rain falling in western districts from Taranaki southward and in the southern portion of the South* Island. Unsettled conditions and rain becoming fairly general within 24 to 36 hours. Temperatures moderate. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST CLOUDY, WITH RAIN Tho Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Light to moderate northwesterly winds predominating and freshening somewhat. The weather is likely to be fine at first, but later clouding ovor and scattered rains developing during Wednesday. Temperaturet moderate. Seas slight to moderate. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —Fine, sunny weather with a light wind generally from the south was experienced yesterday. Tho wind last night was light from the northwest.
