MARY'S BAY WORK GOOD PROGRESS MADE YACHT CLUBS' BUILDINGS CONFERENCE TO " BE HELD Because the j'acht club buildings on the breakwater at St. Mary's Bay will bo among the most prominent features along the Auckland waterfront, the Harbour Board has asked interested parties to participate in a visit of inspection of the boat harbour on June 22, and to attend a conference, with a view to preserving a balance in the scheme of construction. The work should be finished in three months, and by the beginning of the yachting season the .club quarters could be built. Mr. W. B. Darlow, chairman of the board, said last night that the purpose of the conference was to discover what were the building requirements of the various interests. Once the steel bridge from the mainland to the wall was built and the breakwater completed, it would be possible for motorists to drive their cars along the 40ft. driveway for approximately a quarter of a mile. St. Mary's Bay boat harbour would become a conspicuous part of the harbour, Mr. Darlow continued, and naturally the board was anxious that any structures built along the breakwater should be harmonious. For that reason the board wished to meet representatives of the clubs concerned, to formulate a policy that would coincide with their wishes as well as those of the board.

The work was nearer completion than most people thought, said Mr. D. Holderness, superintendent and engineer to the board. The first consignment of steel, which had been delayed, had arrived in Auckland Jast week from Australia, and the bridge work would begin at once. In all probability the bridge would be finished in about six weeks, dependent upon an uninterrupted supply of steel from the Broken Hill works at Newcastle.

"There js no reason why clubhouses and boating sheds should not be open in time for the next boating season," Mr. Holderness said." "About eight acres will be reclaimed by the time we have finished, which will -be within three months, and most, of the ground, is solid enough to start building straight away. It should be the show place of Auckland."
