MATCH AT SOUTHEND BATSMEN IN TROUBLE AUSTRALIANS' INNINGS SIX DOWN FOE 108 By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyrighi (Heceixed Juno 7, 1.20 a.m.) LONDON, June 0 The batsmen again had an uncomfortable time when the Australians resumed their second innings against Essex at Southend to-day, six wickets being down lor, 108 at the luncheon adjournment. The weather was bright and cold. Both the impromptu openers, Walker and Ward, received nasty knocks on the fingers due to the wicket being corrugated and helping the bowlers. Nevertheless, the pair did well in tho trying conditions to see out the first half-hour against the fast bowling. Ward was victim to a leg break and Walker's wicket was shattered in consecutive overs. Then Brown and Fingleton were partnered against the good bowling. Nichols, clapping on speed, got Fingloton well caught on the off side, the ball flying from the shoulder of the bat. Hassett, after several vain attempts to get Fames away, was out to a juggling catch at short square leg. Badcock was playing vigorously when he was out leg-before to a ball which kept very low.
