Bryant was not hitting his irons as crisply as in previous rounds. H. p. Brinsden was not playing very confidently at any time during the match-play stages and he owes his win to the fact that ho made fewer mistakes on the' greens than his opponent. In the final 'Bryant took the lead at the Intiliole, bnt 'yt struck trouble from tho fee pt the nex£ and Brinsden squared the ukh with a sound 4. Brinsden became 1 ip 'at the 3rd, after his opponent threeputted, and he increased bis had at the ith. where Bryant's tee-shot found a bunker. The Semi-Finals 'Se golf in one semi-final was very mediocre, 'while in the other it was good. Neither Brtasdeu nor Salek played up to championship standard and, had Salek been putting- even reasonably well, the margin in Brinsden'a favour would have been small. Salek missed opportunities in the early stages and Brinsden was 2 up after the 6th. Tha two following holes wore halved «d both players were equal to good putts for fosrs at the 9th. Salek failed to get down jii two putts from five yards for a tin at tl» lOtn, and from that stage Brinston settled down to play better and he nenttjally woo/on the 15th, Ths jn»tch between J. C. Pclbnui and Pqrant proved to be interesting, and Bryant, particularly over the last nine holes, played itoost faultless golf. Pelham was even fours for the first five holes and at this stage he 2 np. He was out in 38 to maintain kis -lead and was fortunate in obtaining a Ulf at the next, as he stymied Bryant after the . latter bad played a splendid second to *tt&in a yard of the. pin. Bryant won two «( ths next three holes in good figures to dure the match, and a four at the 14th Rw him take tho lead for the first time.
