The following results were forwarded by correspondents of tho Herald: — Te Awamutu. —One of the largest crowds seen at Albert Park this season assembled to witness the meeting of the two local teams, Te Awamutu and Rovers, in the Waikato Stag competition. The fact that a week earlier Rovers, whose previous* performances had been unimpressive, decisively defeated tho leading Taupiri fifteen, while Te Awamutu suffered its first defeat of the. season at the hands of Cambridge, lent added interest to the meeting of the two teams. The came resulted in a draw, each side scoring 8 points. As a spectacle the match did not come up ! to expectations, play being mostly confined j to the forwards, with both sides indulging | in spoiling tactics. In the first spell Rovers had the better of the exchanges, Te Awamutu's forwards appearing lifeless. West ] scored for Te Awamutu, Teddy converting i and kicking a penalty goal. Thompson scored for Rovers, Teddy converting the try and kicking a penalty goal. In the junior and lower grades a successful seven-a-side tournament was held. Thame*.—The Thames Rugby representatives defeated teams from H.M.S. Achilles in both senior and junior matches. These were the first representative games played this season and created a lot of interest, there being a good attendance and two very sparkling games resulted. In the senior game Navy kicked off and for a period play r<* mained in the middle of the field. After ten minutes the Navy took advantage of slackness in the Thames' defence to score. Thames then attacked and from a forward movement Storey picked up nicely and passed to Hamilton, who ran round and scored between the posts. T. Abraham added the extra points. Navy again came to the fore and its winger made a nice run and scored in a handy position. The kick was successful and the interval came with Navy leading, B—s. Hamilton intercepted and passed to Storey, who scored between the posts. T. Abraham again converted. The ball was kicked over the Navy line and Dunn scored. Ake and Davis drew the Navy defence and handed to Storey, who ran over between the posts. Ake converted. In another forward movement bad handling and tackling allowed Storey to cross. During the latter portion of the match the fog was so thick it was impossible to see the players from one •side of the field to the other, hut the game was played for the full period and the score at the end was:—Thames. 21; H.M.S. Achilles. 8. In the junior match the Thames representatives proved too strong and defeated the Navy by 10 points to 3. * Whangarel.—The principal match at Rugby Park, Whangarei, was between the two town senior teams. City and Old Boys, and this attracted a large attendance. City won by 14 points to 10. Although City's points were mainly from tries. Old Boys did not cross the line, their points being all secured from kicks, two penalty goals and a field gold. City was the better team in all departments and it has shown marked improvement upon its play earlier in the season. Due to injuries Old Boys were playing substitutes and this affected their combination, especially in the tight forward work. Senior results were:—City, 1-1 (tries by Roos, Bennet and Green, Roos converting one try and kicking a penalty goal). Old Boys, 10 (penalty goals By Masters, 2. and a field goal by W. Tapper); Hikurangi, •24 (tries by Cunningham, 2, Hutchings. 2. and Codling, penalty goal and conversion by Cunningham and two conversions by Codling), Kamo, 0. Senior B: Pipiwai, 11 (tries by C. Moore, Smallwoml and R. Shortland. Moore converting one). Country United, 3 (try by H. Heta); Whatitiri defaulted to Manaia. .Tuniors: High School, 11. Horahora, 7; City, I t. TTiknrangi, 9; Waikiekie, 8, Onerahi, 0; Old Boys won by default from Kamo. Third grade: Old Boys, 12. Onerahi, 3; Central, 20. High Srhool. 8; Horahora, 10, Mangakahia. 9. Fourth grade: High School A, 11. Kamo. 0; Horahora. 9, High School B, 3. Fifth grade: Maunu. 27. Horahora, 3. Manukau Sub-union.—Conditions w;ere ideal when tho first round of championship games was completed. A definite improvement in play was evident, which augurs well for the representative games to be played Inter in the Reason. By defeating the strong Karaka team 11—9 at home, Clevedon went through the first round without losing a game and is at the head of the championship table. The game was an even one as the score indicates. Clevedon. however, owes a lot to Ross Dow, for. besides converting the try scored by H. Dawson, he kicked two penalty goals. Karaka's points came from tries by Lindesay and Mahn, S. Wright adding a penalty goal. At Drury the home team beat the improving Manurewa team by 11 to 5 in a hard, fast fame, thoroughly enjoyed by a good crowd of spectators. Poor goal kicking lost both sides many points. For Drury tries were scored by J. Glasgow, Hoult and "W. Cossey, A, E. Cossoy converting one, while for the losers Ron Hayworth scored a good try, which was converted by McConnell. At Kingseat in a very interesting friendly game Ararimu drew with the Hospital, 3-all. At the end of the first round the championship points are:—Clpvedon, 8; Ararimn, 0; Karaka. 4; Drury, 2; Manurewa, 0. In the jnnior division the results were:—Manurewa, 18, Drury, 3. Third grade: Karaka, 10, Old Boys, 0. Te Aroha.-—ln the Te Aroha Rugby Union's competition at Herries Park Old Boys had an easy win over Waihou by 30 to 3. The game was even in the first spell, but after half-time the Waihou defence weakened considerably. Old Boys' forwards had very much the better of the set scrums and line-outs and their back* were definitely superior, Clotworthy, first five-eighths, and Shechan, centrethreequarfer, being especially prominent. Some of their passing movements were really good and several of their tries came from good attacking movements by the backs. Maloney was the highest scorer, obtaining two tries, converting two and kicking three penalty goals, one from nearly half-way. Tries were also scored by Rowe, Kiely, Ray and Clotworthy (Q), Clotworthy converting one. G. Johnson and McGlashan played well for Waihou, the latter kicking a penalty goal. Waihou unfortunately lost ,T. Borrie, who was forced to leave the field through an injury to his collarbone. A more even and interesting encounter was played on No. 2 ground, Tni Maoris defeating C'ity by S. points lo 5. The plav was fast and willing from the start, but nnfortnnately was marred during the closing stages by a very heavy fog. The Tin team is improving steadily and has the makings of a very good combination. Matamata. —Three senior games were played on Bedford Park in continuation of the Matamata Rugby Union's championship competition. Matamata defeated Wairere by 9 points to 8. For the winners tries were scored bv M. Madill and Mulholland, and J. Cole kicked a penalty goal. J. Wilson scored a try for Wairere, W. Avake converting and kicking a penaltv goal. Hawke have been selected for the Waikato repre«entative team to play Auckland, while W. Brown, also of Hinuera, is emergency.

Tauplrl.—A very fast and even game resulted when the Taupiri and Cambridge teams met at Xgaruawahia in the Stag competition. Both teams have been playing good football and a large crowd assemble; to see the visitors win by 1.") points to 9. Ihe ma waft characterised by hard forward Pl* Cambridge forwards proving equal to their heavier opponents and finishing .stronger. Considerable interest was shown in the dlsplav of the visiting fullback Harworth, owing t his selection fpr Waikato honours. Although very sound, he in no w J^... ov ? r^,( '°V.' Robertson, who made some brilliant s.nes for Taupiri. Neither Set of hacks was very impressive. although the visitors two tries came as a result .of back movements. l aupiris points comprised tries by Jones and McNitol and a penalty goal by lapp, while Cambridge's came from tries by Pennell and Kelly and three penalty goals by Hewitt. Fast football characterised tho Southern-Old Boys game, most of which was of the tight forward type. V. "Walters kicked a penalty goal for Southern and B. Martin scored a try which Wade converted. The DargavilleRuawai match was very ragged, neither team revealing good football. For Ruawai Wilson, R. Wallace and Matthews scored tries, two of which were converted by Bradley. Dargaville'* points were an unconverted try by C. Bonner. Third grade: Northern, fl, High School, 9; Southern, 11, Dargaville. 8.

Hamilton. —Tn a ragged and uninteresting game Technical Old Boys defeated Frankton before a large attendance at Rugby Park by i:i points to O. Both sets or backs lacked combination and. as a result, the spectacular passing movements characteristic of football in Hamilton so far this season were seldom if ever seen. Tetzlnff. Technical's halfback, who was easily the outstanding player on the field, sent out well-directed passes, and used the blind side judiciously, his try coming from a good solo effort from outside the twentyfive. Tetzlaff. who played junior football last vear. seems assured of a bright future in Rugbv. R. Everest, tho Waikato representative and the Frankton renlre-threequarter, who was playing his second game o. the season, although well marked, was always dangerous, and his tackling was a feature of the game. Wakefield played well at Reconu five-eighths for Technical, two of his sides three tries coming as the result of his clever anticipation. Dalbeth was not always sound at fullback and allowed himself to be bustled on numerous occasions. Tries were scored for Technical by llaughey (2) and Tetzlaff, two of which were converted by Dalbeth. Putaruru.—Fast, open football was seen at Putaruru, where Arohena defeated Huimat by 23 points to 11. in the Putaruru Rugby Union's senior competition. For the winner Hall played an outstanding game, scoring one try and kicking two penalty goals. Yates and Nathan, in the Arohena pack, were also responsible for sound games, both players following up well and taking advantage of every opportunity. In the game at Lichfield, Putaruru seniors went down to Tokoroa. 10 —o, Gabolsinse.v, in the Tokoroa forwards, was tireless in the tight and the loose, his try being one of the highlights of the match.
