Two armed junks, each carrying 100 men, ranged alongside a small Portuguese cargo steamer when she was entering Hangchow Bay yesterday. The Chinese boarded her and threw handgrenades, killing tho second engineer and smashing the mainmast. The pirates abandoned their prize three hours later, taking the purser and four Chinese sailors as hostages, and looting the ship of all valuables.
