SCIENTIST'S FLIGHT

DUTCH NEW GUINEA STARTS FOR HONOLULU (Received Jnno 3, 5.5 p.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, June 2 Mr. Richard Archbold, of the American Museum of Natural History, accompanied by five companions, including two aviation experts who assisted Sir Hubert Wilkins in his search for the Russians lost in the Arctic, left San Diego, California, today for Honolulu, en route to NewGuinea, via Wake Island, in a flyingboat which cost 250,000 dollars (£62,500). The fliers are expected to reach Honolulu in 18 hours. The machine has a cruising range of 4000 miles. Mr. Archbold expects to remain two years in Dutch New Guinea collecting mammalogical specimens.

The scientific expedition headed by Mr. Archbold is sponsored by tho American Museum of Natural History. Mr. Archbold led an expedition to New Guinea in 1936, which nearly met with disaster when its aeroplane sank at Port Moresby on July 10.
