ROTORUA HOTELS

CONDUCT SATISFACTORY COMMITTEE'S FIRM STAND [by telegraph—OWN - correspondent] ROTORUA, Friday The chairman of the Rotorua Licensing Committee, Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., at the annual meeting to-day, referred to suggestions which had been made at a previous meeting, of the committee that the control of the Waiotapu Hotel was being carried out in an unsatisfactory manner. He said that these complaints had been thoroughly investigated by the police, and it had been found that they could in no way be substantiated. Regarding the conduct of hotels generally, the chairman stated that the police reports indicated that _in most cases the position was very satisfactory during the past 12 months, particularly regarding the hotels in the town, of Potorua. In the outlying areas some trouble had been experienced, but the firm stand taken by the committee, which had ultimately resulted in the transfer of the licence of the Tokaanu Hotel, had without doubt been a warning to licensees generally.
