EXPORTS TO BRITAIN THIRD QUARTER QUOTA THE HIGHEST ON KECORD COMMENT BY MINISTER [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Friday The Minister of Marketing, the Hon. W. Nash, announced to-day that the quantities of New Zealand beef to arrive in the United Ivingdom for the third quarter this year were the highest on record for that quarter. The Government had kept in close touch with the Dominion's representatives in London, who had setaured, after negotiation, the right to land in the July-September quarter, 1938, maximum amounts of beef as follows: — Tons Chilled beef .. .. 7,'J00 Frozen beef (quarters) •• 5,(300 Boneless beef .. *• 6,200 . Veal .. .. .. Beef and veal offals •» 800 Total (tons) .. .. 21,200 Not only the total but tho individual amounts, especially chilled beef, were very satisfactory, concluded Mr. Nash. Import quotas of chilled beef and frozen beef into the Tjnitcd kingdom are fixed by the International Beet Conference. An announcement made by Mr. Nash in January stated that imports of chilled beef into the United Kingdom for the April to Juno quarter this year wero to be increased by over 50 per cent to 7500 tons. Allocations of other types of beef represented an increase of nearly 40 per cent over the arrivals for the corresponding quarter last year, the figures being beef, 9000 tons; veal, 1500 tons; offals, 500 tons. , , The quota for chilled beef was subsequently revised by the International Beef Conference, the figures originally announced by Mr. Nash being reduced by 900 tons to 6600 tons. The quota for the tliird quarter now announced shows a rise of 600 tons.
