May 14 - A man who was said to have, been captured by a Royal gamekeeper after a search with the aid of a bloodhound in Windsor Great Park, was committed for trial when he appeared at Ascot. Berks. The accused, David Pearce, 29, of 110 occupation and no fixed address, was charged with breaking into Cumberland Lodge, Windsor Great Park, the home of Viscount FitzAlan, and stealing jewellery, silver and other articles valued at £lsl. Mr. E. R. Davis, prosecuting, said: The police used a bloodhound in the search, and the quickness with which this man was arrested was largely due to this fact. A man was seen to drop a book near the Prince Consort Gate. The bloodhound was taken there, and quickly picked up the scent. It led the police to the keeper's lodge, where the scent was lost, but half an hour later the man was chased and caught." Ernest Thomas, the gamekeeper, was commended by the Bench for the assistance he gave the police. He was said to have led a search party through the forest. The alleged robbery took place while nuns were keeping vjgil in the drawing room over the coffin of Lady FitzAlan. It was stated that entry had been apparently gained through the window of a storeroom, which was insecurely fastened. After hib arrest Pearce gave the police certain information and some of the missing jewellery was then found [ beneath a bush in the, forest.
