EXCEPTIONAL CROWDS MANY COUNTRY VISITORS BIG PARTIES FROM SCHOOLS FURTHER COMPETITION AWARDS [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Friday Augmented by thousands of children from the Hamilton primary and second- ! nry schools, and from numerous schools between Taumartmni and Mercer, from which stations special trains were run, the attendance at the Waikato Winter Show to-day was ono of the largest recorded by the show association. The weather was fine, and tlie show was thronged with people, the majority of whom wore from the country. There were excellent attendances in the social hall, where the elocutionary and national dancing competitions were held. Tho children were invited to-day to take part in tho tree and grassnaming competition organised by tho association, and many took advantage of tho opportunity to test their knowledge. Young Farmers' Party A party of 140 members of the Young Farmers' Club movement in tho Manawatu district were among tho visitors. Prior to tho country children leaving for their homes, they were supplied with a cup of cocoa and biscuits by the members of the Waikato Children's Camp League. A feature of the show is an exhibition of historical relics, the first staged by tho show association. f The popularity of the exhibition was shown by the ready response received from possessors of heirlooms having historical value. Among tho relics are a portrait of Archdeacon Robert Maunsell, pioneer missionary of tho Waikato, and a silver gilt communion service presented to Archdeacon Maunsell by Bishop Selwyn in 1857 to commemorate the completion of his translation of the Old Testament. High Standard Maintained The annual competitions held in conjunction with the show were continued to-day, when the high standard set yesterday was again maintained. Vocal, instrumental and elocution competitions were advanced a further stage, while additional sections in tho national and operatic dancing wero decided.
