OBITUARY

MRS. M. V. PURCELL The death of Mrs. Mary Veronica Purcell occurred at her residence, 1 Hopetoun Street, Ponsonby, last Sunday. Mrs. Purcell was the widow of Mr, Peter Francis 1 Purcell, who died nine months ago. Btfth wefe members of old Auckland families, Mrs. Purcell's parents having arrived in Auckland in 1842. Mr. and Mrs. Purcell celebrated their golden wedding nt Taurailga about two and a-luilf years ago. They are survived by a son. MR. GEORGE BAILEY , ( FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] HAMILTON, Friday The death occurred in Hamilton today of Mr. George Bailey, aged 91. Mr. Bailey was born at Weymouth, England, and arrived in Auckland 77 years ago. After farming near Auckland ho joined the inilitia and saw active Service in the Taranaki and East Coast campaigns against the Maoris. On his discharge Mr. Bailey lived in Auckland, and later joined the late Mr. E. H. Walker on the Monovale Estate, Cambridge, where he worked for many years. Mr. Bailey came to live in Hamilton !20 years ago, lie is survived by five sons and four daughters. There are 26 grandchildren and 11 great-grand-children. MR. W. D. DttMBIILL [BY TIiI>EGBAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] TAURANGA, Friday Tho death occurred this week at Hawera of Mr. W. D. Dumbell, a former chief clerk of the Public Works Department. Ho was born in Lancashire, iihd cams to Now Zealand with his parents when about three years old, the family settling in Wellington. Mr, Dumbell joined tilt? Public Works Department as a cadet, and became chief clerk, retiring in 1915. He was associated for a time with the late M/\ f{. J. Seddon as private secretary when Mr. Seddon Was Minister of Public Works. In 1920 Mi'. Dumbell Mine to settle in Trturanga, buying a farm at Ohauti. Shortly alter the death of bis wife in 192G he moved to Motueka. From there lie wont to Wellington again, and about three years ago moved to Hawera. Ho is survived by one son.
