WINTER COMPETITIONS McKINVEN WINS STEEPLECHASE The Auckland Amateur Athletic and Clyde Club held its fourth series of winter competitions on Saturday afternoon iu the Domain. There was a lair attendance of spectators and the turf was in good order in spite of »v lew showers of rain. ' Com petit ion in the 75 yards sprint was very keen, four limits ami a final being run. I lie wiimor, F<> J. Hannan, twined tho tape b,v inches from L. K. Currey, with Parkes unci Castle a dead heat in next place. The 3000 vurds steeplechase was not as fust as usual, W. J. Savidan, Blrtwistlo, Clarice and Wattors being absentees. N, P. MoKinven won by Syds after a siirint over the last 100 yds from Evans Results were as follows.— ToYds. —First, heat: Hannan, 1; Thain, 2; Bryan, 3. Won by 2yds. Time, 7 0-1 Oh. Second heat: Barton, 1; Murphy, 2; Castle, H. Won by '-'ft. Time, Bs. Third heat: Currey, 1; Collecut, H. S. Brown. 3. Won by a foot. Timo, 7 0-1 Os. Fourth heat: Wooller, 1; Mearns, 2; Parkes, 3. Bryan (28ft), 105 ft Oin, 3. ' 8000 Yds Steeplechase.—This event was run throe times round the Oval and over tho hill, whoro a track had been cut during tlic past week through tho grass. On the completion of the first 1000, yds Ilryan was leading from Puchunnn, Dunn, Christie, Parkes and Matlicson. The second round saw Bryan still in the lead, followed by McKinvcn, French', Dunn and Evans. Passing tho grandstand for tho last lime, McKinven tooK tho lead, and coming up tho straight spurted in the last looyds to win by Byds. The result was:—N. P. McKyiven «jOs), 11m r».s, 1; B. L.
