May 26 Hcrr Hitler lias staggered the population of Vienna by replanning Austria, abolishing the provincial Governments and substituting leaders and organisers, says the Vienna correspondent of the Daily Telegraph. The new Vienna becomes nearly as large as Greater London. Another shock was the speeding-up of workers. Work in Government departments is to begin at 7.30 a.m. from July 1, and there will be supervision of factories engaged in Government contracts. The public's fare will be more strict than in pre-Nazi days. DEPORTATION OF JEWS NOT WANTED IN FRANCE RETURNED TO NAZI BARRACKS (Received May 26, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. May 26 Nazi Black Guards brought, 56 Austrian Jews by lorry to Sterck, on the French frontier, and told them to enter France, says the Paris correspondent of the Tiines.'The Jews told the French that after the deprivation of their property they were forced to sign papers renouncing German nationality. French guards escorted them back to the German frontier on the ground that Germany could not be allowed to create a precedent by expelling her own subjects to foreign soil in defiance of inters national law.
German frontier guards tried to stop the Jews returning, but finally escorted them to barracks.
MANY SUICIDES EFFECT OF MARRIAGE LAWS (Received May 27, 1.10 a.m.) VIENNA, May 2G Twelve persons, including four Aryans, who wore .married to Jews, Lave committed suicide since the application of the Nuremberg laws in Austria on Tuesday. Thousands of marriages and engagements will be destroyed. The Jewish leaders failed to induce the Nazi Radicals to avoid a sudden application of the laws.
