PEESONNEL OF BOARD THE NEW APPOINTMENTS ADMINISTRATION OF LANDS [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Thursday The apointment of Messrs. J. S. Jessep and H. M. Christie, M.P., as members of the Board of Native Affairs, is announced in the Gazette. The Board of Native Affairs was set up in 1935 to replace the Native Land Settlement Board and to take over various other duties regarding the Maori race. Mr. Jessep, who lives at Wairoa, Hawke's Bay, and has had a lifetime experience of farming, was previously

a member of the board, and also the Native Land Settlement Board. For 10 years he was a member of the New Zealand Meat Board. Mr. Jessep was appointed the East Coast Commissioner in 1934, which involved the control of large tracts of Maori laud carrying approximately 100,000 sheep and other stock.

Mr. Christie for some years has been well known throughout Hawke's Bay for his interest in public affairs. From 1929 to 1932 he was a member of the Patangata County Council, and in 1935 successfully contested the Waipawa seat as the Labour Party's candidate, defeating the sitting member, Mr. A. E. Jull.
