BURGLARS CAUGHT
YOUTHS SEEN BY GIRLS PROMPT APPREHENSION GOODS AND CASH RECOVERED [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] HASTINGS, Thursday Particularly smart work was performed by a nigh twa tchman and members of the Hastings public last evening, and it resulted in the identifying of two juveniles from Napier who are alleged to have committed two burglaries earlier in the evening in the main business area of Hastings. The premises entered were those ot Hallenstein Brothers, mercers, and Madame Cowan's gown shop, m Herotaunga Street. The discovery by the nightwatchman of an open door aroused suspicion and gave cause for an alarm to the police. The nightwatchman was informed by two girls that j;wo youths had been seen carrying a suitcase and overcoats as they left the right-of-way leading to Hallenstein Brothers premises, and he hailed a taxi and conducted a search that eventually led him to near a boardinghouse. In the meantime Constable R. .Bradley and members of the detective force were also engaged in the search. Ihey were successful in locating the missing goods, which had been hidden m conveniences. , Entry was made to each sl '"P ,y breaking a rear window. From Hallenstein Brothers' shop several overcoat and a suitcase, into which assorted clothing had been packed, were taken, while the haul from Madame Cowan« premises comprised about i-8 to s-iu "'it'if understood that all the missing goods and cash were recovered.
