AIR RAID PRECAUTIONS
VOLUNTEERS IN BRITAIN EVACUATION OF CITIZENS (Received May 25, 5.5 p.m.) British "Wireless RUGBY, May 24 The Home Secretary, Sir Samuel Hoare, who two months ago appealed for 1,000,000 air raid precaution volunteers, to-day broadcast an announcement to the effect that there are now about 400,000 volunteers. The Government wanted .the remainder before the summer holidays. The following Parliamentary committee has been appointed to examine the problem of the transference of persons from areas which might be exposed to continuous air attack, and recommend plans for the purpose: — Sir John Anderson (chairman), Colonel G. F. Doland, Dr. Haden Guest, Sir Percy Harris.
