HOME SCIENCE WORK RESEARCH IN NUTRITION ADEQUATE DIETS FOR ALL The value of a correct diet in the prevention of disease was emphasised by Professor A. G. Strong and Dr. Elizabeth Gregory, of the Home Science Department at the University of Otago, Avlien addressing members of the Overseas League yesterday afternoon. "Thousands of pounds are spent annually in New Zealand hospitals," said Professor Strong. "We will do anything for the si<;k, but will not spend a penny in the prevention of disease." Professor Strong explained how the home science extension department was working to make the women of the country health-conscious and beauty-conscious. Improved knowledge among the people would go far to prevent disease. The research work conducted at the University of Otago was discussed by Dr. Gregory. She said graduates were working out diet schemes for families 011 different low levels of income. These diets all consisted of the right nutritional values. They were being tried on certain families, and, if satisfactory, would be suggested for general use.
