AUCKLAND UNION

EIRE BRIGADE TEAM VISITORS FROM SYDNEY MANUKAU CLUB'S REQUESTS The suggestion that a Sydney Fire Brigade Rugby team visit Auckland this season was further discussed by the Auckland Rugby Union last night, a letter being received from the Tauranga Union, asking if, in the event of the team coming to New Zealand, a match could be played at, Tauranga, and what guarantee would be required for such a match. It was decided that the New South Wales Union be written to, asking it to give some idea of the standard of the Fire Brigade team in approximate relation to the strength of an Auckland rlub side. The Tauranga Union is to be informed that in the event of an invitation being extended to the Sydney Fire Brigade team, its application will be considered in due courso. Tho case of A. J. Fletcher, a former Auckland Rugby representative, now resident in Ta Aroha, who was reinstated to the Rugby game recently, was again discussed. Correspondence with the Te Aroha sub-union on the subject was forwarded by the Thames Valley Union and read to tho meeting. Mr. S. Cleal expressed the opinion' that Thames Valley had not acted in good faith, but Mr. L. Meek thought that Thames Valley should not be blamed. The fault, if any, lay with the Te Aroha Union. The chairman, Mr. A. Baker, concurred in this view. It was decided that a letter bo sent to the Thames Valley Union traversing tho full circumstances of the case, and stating that information bearing on it was now in the possession of the New Zealand Union. Unusual Inquiry An nnusual inquiry was made, by the Thames Union, referring to two of its players who are prone to injury and have frequently been hurt in the past, and asking if there J was any power to prevent these men from | playing. The letter stated that it was unj fortunate that both men were extremely keen j on Rugby and insisted on playing, but it i was not considered to be in their interests ! that they should do so, and both, had been ! notified that they could not be covered by ! the union's insurance scheme.

It was decided to reply that the Auckland Union knew of no authority by which the players could be prevented from playing, but that it considered the clubs should be asked not to include such players in their teams. A long letter was received from the Mannkau Club, stating that, at a special meeting of the committee and the senior team, a motion of no confidence in the union's judicial committee had been adopted. The club complained that the statement of a player was of no value against that of a referee under tho present system, and suggested several amendments to it, including furnishing of a copy of (he referee's report to player beforehand, also that the referee and player appear together before the judicial committee, together with captains of the opposing teams. The letter further suggested that the player concerned should have the right to Question witnesses, that proceedings dealing with judicial committee recommendations be takqn in committee, and that the Auckland Rugby Union be deemed tho supreme authority, with power to alter the judicial committee's recommendations. Discussion of tho letter was deferred for one week

Mount Roskill Ground A letter was received from the Mount Roskill Road Board stating that Seymour Park would be made available for the use of schoolboys, subject to the convenience of the lessee, but adding that it was not in ideal condition for football. Tho chairman said 'he thought the Mount Roskill Road Board should; make the area available, for sport and put it in suitable order. > . The secretary, Mr. T. W. Maben, said the board would probably require financial assistance. Mr. Baker: Can't they get it from the Government? • < The matter was left in ■ the chairman's hands. - . In connection .with the visit of the Indian hockey team, the union decided, on the representations of the Auckland Hockey Association, to allow the association sole use of Eden Park No. 1 ground on August 13 and August 27 for matches against the visitors, the terms to be the same as in 1935. There was some discussion of tho fact that a meeting of the junior management board had lapsed for want of a quorum. It was explained by the acting-chairman of that body, Mr. J. Carr, that several members had had to leave earlier than usual on that particular occasion. It was decided that in future all schoolchildren under the age of 16 should be admitted to club matches free. Match with Taranaki The Taranaki Union confirmed July 2 as the date of its match with Auckland, at Auckland, and the Wellington Union confirmed September 10, at Welligton, for the annual Auckland v. Wellington fixture. It was decided that eflortp be made to arrange a match between Auckland Colts and the Thames representatives on June 6, and also botween the Thames junior representatives and Auckland's third grade representatives. The North Auckland Union is to be advised that no objection will be made to the reinstatement of L. C. Webber, and the Waikato Union is to bo similarly advised in the case of P. Newton. ...... The New Zealand Union advised that the following reinstatements had been approved:— W. Little, C. Wyberg, J. McGaßney, J. Philson, J. Young, J. A. Potier, 11. M. Tawhai, R. Sheppard, H. Simpson, N.
