NEW PLYMOUTH NEWS RACING ARRANGEMENTS FUTURE OF FOOTLOOSE TWO CHARGES FOR P. JOHNSON [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday Many New Plymouth horses are spelling. S. E. Cleaver will leave tomorrow for Foxton with Don Erma and Booklaw. Don Erma is not engaged, but will race at Napier Park the following week. Booklaw, who is to contest the Hack Steeplechase at Foxton, is in good order. When tried as a steeplechaser early in the season he showed a marked aversion from brush fences, but his recent schoolings suggest that he lias overcome this. On account of 11. W. Savago being injured at Awapuni J. McLaughlin may ride Booklaw. The pair will remain in Hawke's Bay until after the meeting at Hastings in the middle of June. Merial appears to be thriving and, as she is partial to soft tracks, she may be taken to Trentham in July. Ned Cuttle, in the same stable, bears a healthy appearance. He has thickened out since joining 11. Johnson's team. Johnson has recommissioned Lexden, who injured himself on the eve of the Egmont meeting in February. Advance Plane appears to have done well since racing at Hawera. He may be taken to the Otaki meeting. When Footloose races next it' wilt be as a gelding. He has been a most consistent performer; in nirfe.^starts he has not been further back than fourth. His record is two firsts, four seconds, a third and two fourths. He is a well-biplt galloper, who is expected to turn out a first-class three-year-old. Glenthawn and Sang Bleu recently joined W. Mantle's stable. They are in steady work and may be prepared for the meeting at New Plymouth in July. Mantle had much success with Glenthawn's half-brother, Omeo. P. Johnson has Ohanga and Aussie Ra in his charge. They are to bo trained for jumping events. Ohanga is bred for a jumper, being by Potoa from Erie. Ohanga is of the same family as Clarion Call.

CONVEYER AS HURDLER TO MAKE DEBUT AT FOXTON POWER CHIEF SCHOOLS WELL [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] PALMERSTON NORTH. Wednesday The schooling of Conveyer, who won the Palmerston North Handicap last Saturday, provided, the highlight of this morning's work at Awapuni and indicated good prospects for his debut as a hurdler at Foxton. Strolling (C. Thomson) jumped three hurdles safely at an easy pace. He took each obstacle in his stride. He may need time before he is ready to race. Warehi (Thomson) did not relish his schooling task, although he made no mistakes at the three obstacles. Kentucky Song and Red Sand, who were left behind by H. Dulieu after racing here, were given pace work. Kentucky Song shows no ill-effects from her fall in the Flaxbourne Hurdles and Red Sand seems to be all the better for her race. Power . Chief (A. W. McDonald) jumped two rounds of the steeplechase fences, which comprised a brush, hencoop and double brush on each circuit. Power Chief was not going fast at the first fence and he just lobbed over, but he jumped the remaining seven fences beautifully, taking the double well. Conveyer (McDonald) had Taumau (B. Kowhai) as companion over a round of the schooling hurdles. The former rapped the first, but he took the others in his stride. He is a natural jumper. He hit Out afterward in pace work and should be a very fit horse on Saturday Taumau gave his usual good display. Blue Steel, who was recommissioned last week bv L. Knapp, is a halfbrother to Gainsay, who won in Mr. K. McK. Duncan's colours. H. Johnstone will ride Stargono in the Trial Stakes at Foxton.
