Sir,—One matter of vital importance to New Zealand which seems to ; . have escaped the notice of the present Government is the excessive of money on travel abroad at the .present time. This , money, earned and - saved in New Zealand, is lost to the country to a largff extent through the policy of discouraging thrift and ..care for the morrow. Let us. eat, .drink and have a trip to the Old Country or else- v where to-day, rather than taxes and levies to-morrow. how many people vrith capital are lcay--ing New Zealand, to-day for good and-v. all. and how few of the same class arc ' coming, in? With every natural inducement to come here, with the exchange advantage, fear of ...war in ... Europe, the present should he a time . of a great influx. of people of the old ;. pioneer type to this land, arid how _ lamentable that this is not -taking, place. At a time when every other. ; country" enjoying a return of prosper- fity is starting or enlarging old ones, New 'Zealand has hardly a new factory to itsTcredit, and old ones are curtailing output- and turning off hands. The . one industry really prosperous at the present time is the breweries.* The present Government is fostering the idle and driving the decent <citizeu to alter his habits •; and outlook. How many people-are "•revesting their money in Jvew Zealand to-dav ? Many more, I venture to say, • ... are selling out and investing overseas, or already enjoying an expensive trip ; such as they would never have contemplated but for the policy of spend •: and squander of to-day.'' : , H.
