THE LEAGUE CODE
TOUR OF AUSTRALIA FINAL TRIALS TO-DAY INTER-ISLAND CONTEST Considerable interest is being taken in the final trial matches to bo played at Carl aw Park this afternoon in view of the selection this evening of the New Zealand Thigh,v League team for Australia. The inter-island match is certain to he keenly contested as many of the best players in New Zealand are taking part. On a dry ground, the North Island backs are capable of playing clever football, and it will be interesting to compare the standard of the southern rear division, which is reported to be very strong.
The South forwards have always been a difficult proposition for the North 'lsland, which has a number of forwards likely to win a place in the team for Australia. The standda rd of forward play in Auckland has improved considerably and on this occasion the South players will have to show a high standard to gain places in the New Zealand team.
