FAMOUS VILLAGE ACTOR
DEATH OF ANTON LANG i (Received May 19, 5.5 p.m.) MUNICH, May 18 Anton Lang, the German villager who portrayed Christ in the Oberam-' mergau Passion Plays, has died, aged. 63.
Anton Lang was born in Oberammergau, Bavaria. The play was instituted in 1634"in gratitude for the abatement of a plague, and was performed every 10 years entirely by the peasants. Lang was a bearded man with long flowing hair and-; fine impressive features, and in the 1900 production of the play was chosen for the part of Christ. His delineation of the character was so striking that he was given the part again in 1910 and 1922. The 1920 performance had been delayed owing, to the consequences' of the war.
