STOCKS AND SHARES
THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE AUCKLAND GAS HIGHER Influenced by reports from overseas, investors displayed some hesitancy in dealings on the Auckland Stock Fxchange yesterday. Support was inclined to be irregular, and, while some issiies gained ground, the tone of the market generally continued quiet. Local body debentures ami Government. stock were again strongly supported and there was a fairly full inquiry for banks. Insurances revealed an irregular tendency with improved offers for New Zealands and buyers for South British a shade easier. A feature of the day's trading was the continued improvement in Auckland Gas, which again were lifted on sale. Interest in pastorals was indicated in two sales of Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering preference. Slightly more interest Tilso was shown in breweries, with further business in New Zealands at firm'prices. Broken Hill Proprietary continued the recent upward trend, and offers for the contributing issue also were higher. Electrolytic Zincs, however, had an easier tendency. Australian Glass also met with weaker support. Consolidated Brick had a firm market at late rates, and G. J. Coles made another marked advance. Taranaki Oil continued firm at the previous day's high levels.
