OLD POWDER HULK
DUNEDIN LANDMARK x A well-known landmark about Dunedin, the remains of the old powder hulk in the harbour off Vauxhall, will shortly be removed by Otago Harbour Board workmen. The hulk was originally the barque Delaware, which was built in 1848, and was owned and sailed by a Captain Fox in the Austra-lian-New Zealand trade in- the early days. After she had outlived her usefulness, she was placed off Vauxhall, and was for sonije years used as a /powder hulk, Inter being leased bv a Mr. West, who made nis home, in her. Still later, the hulk was leased by Mr. W. B. Watson, and was eventually used by the Vauxhall Power Boat and Sailing Club as a chib house. Eight years ago the hull was destroyed by fire, and since then only her ribs have remained above the water level.
