NOVEL GOLF MATCH
SYDNEY TO MELBOURNE • FIFTEEN MILES A DAY [FBOIi OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT] SYDNEY. May 12 Marathon golf will be provided by two Sydney men who will stage a contest about the end of this month over the world's longest "course"—from Sydney to Melbourne. It is a challenge contest for £2O between Messrs. Herbert Boulter and Richard George. The men have known each other for 10 years, and the challenge arose during a discussion on the difficulties which beset Alfred Williamson on his recent tricycle ride from Melbourne to Sydney, Both men are anxious to have a referee with them to ensure that the rules of golf are observed. The plan is to set off from Sydney General Post Office about 5 o'clock ono morning before the busy traffic sets in, and to continue along the main road to Melbourne. The men expect to travel about 15 miles a day, reaching Melbourne, 565 miles away, within six weeks. They will take 12 golf balls each and replentish where necessary. They realise that many balls will be !ost in the bush. As long as a ball remains on the road —even if it is in a pot-hole—it roust be hit out, and the number of strokes duly recorded. Wet or fine, plav must proceed until the daily 15 milea have been covered. The type of clubs to be used has not yet been decided.
