VIVID PICTURES • : *' V" " FLOOD RELIEF EFFORTS MANY SPECIAL ARTICLES Prominent among the special pictorial features of the current issue of The Weekx/v News, on sale to-day, are vivid photographs of efforts being made to repair the damage caused by the recent East Coast floods. A number of pictures also show the desolate country in which the relief aeroplane crashed while carrying supplies to marooned farms. . Other features include hunting m Canterbury, amusing views of the university students' processions in Auckland and Christchurch. the opening of the shooting season, milling operations in a picturesque setting at the Tongariro National Park, and a number of dances throughout the Dominion at which debutantes were presented. Among the literary features of the issue are two short stories, and the continuation of a vivid story of the Spanish war, "The Iron Column," by Manuel Chaves -Nogales. Formerly editor of the Madrid newspaper Ahora, Nogrdes tells an inspiring tale ot courage and idealism amid the horror and brutality of war. The work of relief parties in the back country of Hawke's Bay is described in -a special article, many unusual details being mentioned. Other special features this week include the second of a series of great submarine exploits, "Attacked by Their Own Men," by T. M. Jones, ex-leading torpedoman in the Australian submarine J2. The subject of another article is a Wellington Presbyterian minister, referred to by Lawrence of Arabia as one of the l\\o Famous Macs," a name which was gained for exploits in the East during the Great War. On the sports* page.* arc numerous articles which give the latest news concerning racing, football, boxing, wrestling and other pastimes, among them being Mark Nicholls' views on lUigby policy.
