In response to the county's first innings score of 212 riu;'.s, the visitors had compiled 410 for fear wickets at the luncheon interval yesterday. Leicestershire then began the second innings ahd when stumps were drawn had lost five wickets for 107. Badcock'g Brilliant Display Badcock was out in the last over before luncheon, being splendidly caught, low in the gully, by Dempster. The South Australian had batted for 290 minutes and gave a solid, chanceless display, with frequent interludes of brilliance. His score of 198 included one six and 26 fours.

* Chipperfield and Wai|e carried on brightly after until Waite was caught in the slips. , The side's 500 weni up after 360 minutes. Chipperfield' reached his century in 145 minutes, with 13 fours in his total. He gave chances at 28 and 76. Barnett (wicket-keeper) played rather a scratchy innings for 42 not out. The side's innings occupied 415 minutes. , Players Struck by the Ball McCormick opened the attack in Leicestershire's second innings, and he was twice no-balled in the second over. This raised his total of no-balls for the tour to 51. Prentice and Berry started' confidently, but when the total was 30 Berry was brilliantly caught at point. Armstrong was out first ball and Dempster walked right into the next one. He was struck on an arm and seemed to be unable to use his feet. He faced up to the following ball, delivered from well in front of the normal urease. Then McCormick struck Prentice under the right armpit, in the following over, the batsman remaining stockstill at the crease and not attempting to make a stroke. The fast, bowler was " taken off after six overs. O'Reilly had Prentice caught in a „ leg-trap, and kept Dempster on edge. The New Zealander, however, dealt firmly with anything loose. h. McCormick returned at 92, with a fast over, one delivery flying over Dempster'B head. He - was twice noballed in his eighth over. Dempster hooked a'ball to the fence to reach his 50. He held on manfully for 85 minutes. Dempster's Century - ■ The weather when Dempster and Dowen resumed to-day justified only one sweater. The wicket was still true, but McGormick twice struck Dowen. O'Reilly's first four overs were maidens. Dempster was often in difficulties and it was half an hour before he added to his score. Dowen was scoring steadily when he went out leg-before to O'Reilly. Geary had a short life and was swinging heavily at Ward . when stumped. Walsh just survived the next . ball and then skied a catch to Badcock in the outfield. - Dempster was creeping toward the century when Dawkes played on his wicket, leaving only Flamson to stay, with Dempster, who was then 93. The latter reached his century >in 175 minutes, and five minutes later lifted Ward into Badcock's hands. He had played a persistent and chanceless but not really distinguished innings.
