MISHAP TO LIGHTER DISLOCATION OF HIP Lighter, who was pulled up shortly after the start of the Otaua Handicap at Pukekohe last Saturday, was found to have suffered a dislocation of the hip, which was caused when he jumped from the barrier. It is likely to be a couple of months before he has in IIV recovered, and it is ill-luck for his owner, Dr. A. McG. Grant, who purchased the Illumination—Rita Lass gelding only last Friday. Lighter was displaying a good deal of promise on the tracks.

PROGENY OF VAALS CONSISTENTLY GOOD RUNNING A striking aspect of the results of recent meetings in the Auckland area has been the consistently forward J"*' l '" ning of the progeny of Vaals. Taking the two days of the Auckland Racing Club's Easter Meeting, the two da\s at Avondale and the day at Pukekohe, it is found that in 17 flat races, Vaals horses were 22 times placed, gaining eight wins, six seconds and eight thirds. The winners were Vnlimeen. Vnlnmito, Prival, Gold Vaals (two), Dragon Moth, G'heval de Volee, and Barrister. Seconds were secured bv Cheval de Voice, Pocket Venus (two). Dragon Moth. Valamito, Vaalso; and thirds by Valamito, Kaspian, Barrister. Tonnorre (two), Vaalso (two) and Pocket Venus. POT LUCK PROTEST APPEAL AGAINST DISMISSAL Mr. IL Stafford, owner ot Pot Luck, who won the Grand final of the InterDominion Trotting Chanipicyiships at Addington, has lodged an appeal against the decision of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club in dismissing his protest against the stake in the third heat of the Third Qualifying Event being awarded to U. Scott, on the ground that permission was not given by the right authority for U. Scott's change of. gear. The latter horse won the race from Pot Luck and Supertax and the judicial committee of the club confirmed the placings of the judge. The appeal will probably be heard by the Board of the Trotting Association during the first week in June. RACING FIXTURES Way n- -Nelson Jockey Club. Way 12, l-i—"Wanganui Jorkey Club.
