POWER SUPPLY
OVERSEAS SCHEMES ENGINEER'S OBSERVATIONS Comment on the latest developments in steam and electrical engineering was made in a preliminary report presented to the Auckland Electric-Power Board at a meeting yesterday by Mr. A. 0. Glasso, chief engineer to the board. Mr. Glasse returned to Auckland last month from an extended tour overseas. "On the hydro-electric side, the two outstanding stations visited were the Boulder Dam in the United States and Etzywerk in Switzerland," said Mr. Glasse. "The Boulder Dam scheme is impressive if for no other reason than its colossal size. It has also so much of engineering interest that several days could be profitably employed inspecting it. Etzywerk is, I understand, the newest hydro-electric power station in the world, and represents the most modern continental practice. It is outstanding in simplicity of design and lay-out. "The Berlin system of distribution is of particular interest, as it gives supply at approximately the same voltage as tho Auckland Board and its networks are comparable in area and density with those existing here." A detailed report on his observations will shortly be presented to the board by Mr. Glasse. OVER £SOOO PROFIT NORTH AUCKLAND BOARD [bt TELEGRAFH —OWN correspondent] DARGAVILLE, Monday The North Auckland Electric-Power Board has experienced a most successful year, according to the chairman, Mr. J. A. McLean, who stated to-day that the profit for the year ended March 31 last amounted to more than £SOOO. Mr. McLean said that after providing £2OOO for depreciation the profits would be used to place the undertaking upon a sound footing and so preclude any possibility of a rate ever being collected.
