WINTER SHOW

MORE LARGE CROWDS KEEN PUBLIC INTEREST RIDING COMPETITIONS TO-DAY There was again a large attendance at the Auckland Winter Exhibition yesterday, a great proportion of the crowd during the day being schoolchildren who are now on holiday. Much interest has been aroused by the various manufacturers' exhibits, while tho amusements ' sections and side-shows have been doing a good business, Owing to there being a larger area available this year, tho many stalls pre not as cramped as at past shows, allowing the exhibits to be displayed to better -advantage. Tho demonstration which was to have been given yesterday afternoon by Boy Scouts was postponed and if possible this will be held on Thursday evening. The two pavilions which were occupied on Friday and Saturday by tho dog show have now been cleared and alterations are in progress preparatory to the benching and judging of entries in the poultry show, which is to commence on Thursday morning. An exhibition of trick riding which was given by the Cossack riders Ivan Petroff and Basil Rcdenki was well appreciated last night by a large number of spectators. The Roman Chariot Handicap, however, proved to be the most popular item of the evening's entertainment, while the greyhound races held in the oval attracted much interest, A feature of tho entertainment available to-day will bo the children s pony events, which are to commence at noon. Other riding competitions are to take place in tho evening. Several musical items will be given by the Mount Eden Boys' Band.

GREYHOUND RACING EVENTS LAST NIGHT Many exciting finishes resulted in tho greyhound races, which was an a'dded item of entertainment at the show last night. ROMAN CHARIOT RACE EXCITING FINISH The final of the Roman Chariot Handicap held in tho oval last night resulted in a thrilling race, the two competitors being separated by only a length at the finish. COCKER SPANIEL AWARD The result of the open class (dogs) in the black cocker spaniel section of the" dog show held under the control of the Auckland Kennel Club was: A. H.
