INDIAN HOCKEY TEAM PERSONNEL ANNOUNCED THREE MEMBERS OF 1935 SIDE [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] CIIRISTCHURCH, Monday The personnel of the Indian hockey team, which will begin its New Zealand tour on June 8, has been announced by the New Zealand Hockey Association. The Nawab of Manavadar will captain the team and Professor Jagan Natb will be manager. Other members of the team are: — Goalkeeper, Ben Abraham; backs, Gurnain Singh, Mohd Hussain (vice-cap-tain), Fasat Yar Khan; halfbacks, Yayah Khan (right half), Shah Noor (centre half), Lajpat Rai (left half), A. Qavi (left half); forwards, Shahabuddin (right wing), Mohd Ahmed Khan (insido right), Abdul Latif (centre forward), Sultan Khan (inside left), Suleman (left wing), Peter Fernandes (left wing). Two other players have yet to be selected. The party will also include the private secretary and two personal attendants to the Nawab of Manavadar. The right back, Gurnain Singh, is a Sikh from Khalsa College, Amritsar. He is a pupil of Harbail Singh. Peter Fernandes is from Sindh, M. Latif (centre forward) and Lajpat llai (left half) aro from the Punjab, The remaining players are from Manavadar. Three members of the team visited New Zealand with the 1935 Indian team. These are M. Hussian, Shahabuddin and Peter Fernandes. These three also were members of the victorious Indian team at the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936. The Nawab of Manavadar represented India in the Olympic Games elimination series in 1934. He plays in the forward line, usually on the left wing.
