TRANSPORT BOARD

NEW STAFF AGREEMENT COST OF LIVING CHANGES A new three-year agreement between the Auckland Transport Board and the Auckland Transport Board's Tramway and Omnibus Employees' Industrial Union of Workers was ratified by the board at a meeting yesterday. Subsequently the agreement was signed by representatives of tho board and tho union. An important feature of the agreement is a new clause providing for tho revision of wages at the end of eithei the first or second years in the event of an increase or decrease of 5 per cent or more in the cost of living during those periods. Tho extent of any change in tho cost of living will be determined either by an Arbitration Court pronouncement or by records of the Government statistician. With the exception of an increase of lid an hour to all traffic men, the agreement is substantially the same in regard to rates as that formerly in operation. A new clause provides that men employed on permanent way work will not lose time in future owing to wet weather.
