ATTENTION TO DRAINS
SCOPE FOR IMPROVEMENT One has only to go about the country regularly to note the great area of land that stands in need of drainage. There are few farms 011 which there is not some corner that requires attention in this direction. Many thousands of pounds annually are virtually thrown away by the application of fertilisers and possibly lime to badly drained land. By the middle of May all the usual drains should bo made ready to carry off the surplus water and low-lying grass fields can have water furrows made to drain the worst spots. s When attention has been given to the normal drains some consideration may be given to the areas whore a little tile, facino or mole draining would improve the stock-carrying capacity of some sections of the farm.
