AUCKLAND COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN TRIBUTE PAID TO FOUNDER The monthly meeting of the Plunket committee was held yesterday morning at headquarters, Mrs. J. C. Allan presiding. Kirker, L. C. Eathbone, H. 0. Wiles, Alan Donald, J. Mclvor, H. S. Turner (Otahuhn), W. J. Hicks, L. Piper (Mount Eden), A. Campbell (Northcote), E. G. Bray (Papatoetoc), H. Corbett, H. H. Edwards (Devonport), F. Fowler, Goodwin (Ellerslie), L. Hayman, C. E. Napier (Birkenhead), B. Clark, J. Rowe (Kohimarama) and Miss M. J. Colegrove. Mrs. Alan Donald, who recently returned from England, was welcomed to the meeting. Work of Departments Miss Chapman, charge nurse, read the report of the district work for the month of April. It stated that in the pre-natal department 31 expectant mothers had been seen for the first time, 212 return visits had been paid to the department, and 224 mothers were under supervision. In the postnatal department, 197 new baby cases had been seen, 923 visits had been paid to homes, and 7090 mothers and babies had visited the various offices. The report of the Truby King Karitane Hospital was read by Miss Hunt, which stated that twelve mothers and eighteen babies had been admitted during the month. Plans were made for the membership campaign, which will begin next week. Her Excellency Viscountess Gal way will open the campaign with a short broadcast talk on Saturday evening. It will close on May 14 (Founders' Day), which marks the 31st. anniversary of the founding of the society at Dunedin by the late Sir Truby and Lady King. During the week, talks will be given from the other main centres, it is hoped that many mothers will become 'annual subscribers —the minimum subscription of 5s being equivalent to just over Id a week. Sir Truby King's Work The following resolution, which was £assed at the last meeting of the •ominion Council, was read to the committee: — "At this, the first meeting of the council of the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children since the death of our beloved founder, Sir Truby King, we place ou record our devotion to the fundamental ideals of the movement as laid down by him. "During his long association with the society, extending over 31 years, the late Sir Truby King gave to us his active guidance, and much research was carried out with the object of perfecting the Plunket system of feeding. "It will be the object of the society to continue this research so that it can at all times be kept abreast of modern developments in this country and abroad. . "The society's teaching is not static; but will continue -to develop on the same sound, broad lines which have marked its history to date. "As a council we realise our responsibilitv to the mothers and babies of New Zealand, and it shall be our constant endeavour to see that the trust imposedupon us is not misplaced." PAP'ATOETOE BR ANCH The report and balance sheet presented at the annual meeting of the Papatoetoe branch of the society this week showed an excellent year's work had been accomplished. In the statement. presented by the nurses, an increase in the number of visits paid was disclosed. The following officers and committee were elected:—Patrons, Dr. J. J. Valentine, Dr.. T. R.
