SATISFACTORY YEAR THAMES VALLEY ACCOUNTS [by telegrafh—own correspondent] TE AROHA, Wednesday A most satisfactory year is disclosed by the Thames Valley Electric-Power Board's accounts for tho year ended March" 31, 1938, notwithstanding the fact that reductions in charges totalling £7OOO per annum were given to consumers in May of last year. Tho not sales of electricity for the year show an increase of £12,203, the figure being £138,363, representing 33i million units, an increase on last year of nearly 4J million. The net profit for the year was £12,108. The current year's estimates show that the adoption as from April 1, 1938, of a single meter rate will result in a saving to consumers of £9IOO. Since tho introduction in 1930 of tho meter system reductions in rates have been made totalling an estimated loss per annum of £39,101. The board decided at its meeting today to proceed with the reticulation of the Thames coast as far as Tapu, provided the requisite guarantees can be obtained. It wdl bo some time before it will be possible to put tho work in hand owing to the amount of work already being carried out, which will necessitate this reticulation standing over for possibly six months.
