CONCILIATION DISPUTE
BREWERS AND BOTTLERS NO FULL AGREEMENT No agreement on the principal wages and hours clauses was arrived at in a dispute before the Conciliation. Council brought by the Northern Industrial Union of Brewers and Bottlers, although an agreement was made on many other matters. The Conciliation Commissioner, Mr. 11. E. Price, presided. The union claimed £5 5s as the weekly wage for experienced men, the counter offer by the employers being £4 ss. For casual workers, 2s 9d an hour was demanded. The employers agreed to a 40-hoiir week, but insisted on the right to work certain classes of employees on Saturday mornings, the condition not being acceptable to the union. No agreement was.. made on, clauses relating to shifi workers and holidays. The dispute was referred to the Arbitration Court. The union assessors were Messrs. A. Ralph, W. B. Freriey, H. L. Briggs and N. V. Douglas, the last-named acting as workers' agent. Mr. W. E. Anderson was employers' agent, and had with him as assessors. Messrs. F. T. Innes, J. W. Lethbriuge, H. C. McCoy and H.
