The Worcester captain, the Hon. C. 3T. Lyttelton, won the toss, but he sent the Australians in to bat on a good fast wicket. The home team's captain explained his action by stating that the crowd had come to see Australia bat. He candidly added that by making the visitors bat first there was less chance of the match proving a fiasco. ' Record Attendance The South African medium-fast howler, Crisp, opened the attack before a crowd which grew from twelve to fourteen thousand—a record for the ground. Owing to the cold, most of the spectators wore overcoats. Brown was completely beaten in Crisp's third over, being out leg-before. Fingleton kept batting nicely when partnered by * Bradman, who was cautious and slow for a start. Fingleton lost his wicket with his •core at 41, when he mistimed a shot and was well caught in the covers. He was more enterprising than usual and hit five fours. McCabe joined Bradman and the pair moved along quietly until the luncheon adjournment, when the score., was 112 for two wickets. the interval McCabe began to open his shoulders to the bowlers, but with his score at 34, Perks brought one back sharply from the off and bowled him.

Bradman, having settled down, revealed a wide range of strokes, Badcock receiving very little of the bowling. JThe partnership, realised 100 in an hour and Bradman ran to 143 after two .hours' batting. One over from Human, trho bowled slow, high-flighted deliveries; yieldod 27. runs. Bowlers Disheartened Badcock was aggressive after the tea adjournment, punishing the bowling and thoroughly disheartening the trundlers. The fine partnership, which delighted the spectators, was dissolved •when Badcock, in attempting a cover--drive, was neatly caught. He had batted excellently for his 67. . Howorth, the Worcester bowler, was recalled with the score at 427 and he had Bradman caught in the slips off his Becond delivery. The Australian champion mis-timed a late cut.
