INCREASED SHIPMENTS DECLINE IN PORK ONLY LARGER STOCKS HELD Increased shipments in all classes of meat except pork are shown in exports for the six and a-half months of the current season ended April 15, in com- i parison with last season's corresponding ( figures. Stocks of other classes of meat were higher with the exception of chilled beef, a large quantity of which was loaded into vessels ready to depart. SAVINGS BANK YEAR NEW PLYMOUTH RESULTS GROWTH OF DEPOSITS Deposits received bv the New Plymouth Savings Bank in the financial year just ended, amounted to £585,769, an increase of £32,441 over the previous year, and £78,500 in excess of the withdrawals. Interest paid to depositors and the staff' provident fund was £26.961. Interest received on investments was £38,927. The bank is required by law to hold 10 per cent of its total funds in liquid cash. Cash and fixed deposits amounted to £97.979. In addition, the bank owns New Zealand Government stock to the value of £160.725. State Advances Corporation stock £SOOO, and local body debentures £30.023. The year's profit was £7070. After making the necessary deductions and allowing £3OOO for income tax reserve, the bank's reserve has been increased to £SO 417. , , The total funds of the bank have grown from £51,737 in 1920 to over £1,000,000.

PAPER INDUSTRY SCHEME IN TASMANIA " OPERATION NEXT YEAR To supervise the erection of plant for the wood pulp and paper scheme in | Tasmania, -Mr. P. Sandwell, a pro : mincnt engineer of \ ancouver, is a through passenger for Sydney by the Aorangi, which arrived at Auckland yesterday. One of the largest projects to be undertaken in Tasmania, the work is to bo performed by an Australian company, which lias appointed Mr. Sandwell chief engineer. Mr. Sand well said it was expected that operations would be commenced about the middle of next year. For the first time it was proposed to mill eucalyptus, but there was no question as to its practicability and the large amount of timber that was available assured a considerable production.

Bidding was brisk and everything sold well.
