WRESTLING

CONTEST THIS EVENINp BLOMFIELD OPPOSES FRALEY What should prove to be one of the most interesting and exciting wrestling matches seen in Auckland for some time past will take place at the Town Half this evening when,. Lofty Blomfield, the New Zealand champion, will meet tho Singing Cowboy, Pat Fraley. Since his return from the United States, where he established a remarkably fine record, including a draw with the world's champion, Bronko Nagurskl, Blomfield has come through his Dominion programme undefeated. Ho is naturally anxious to maintain this record in view of a possible return match with Nagurskl for the world's title. Blomfield has countered the holds of all the famous men he has so far encountered, but he will be meeting something new when h'e is called upon to defend himself against Fralcy's flying toehold. The rapidity with which the cowboy clapped this specialty on Joe Tonti at tho Town Hall recently gave the onlookers something to talk about, and the latter will be keen to see whether F raley will be able to trap tho big New Zealander in similar manner. One thing appears _ certain, and that, is that there will be a lively exchange of forearm jolting, at which both Blomfield and the visitor are adepts. There will be two amateur preliminaries, together with a special professional bout between P,-Douglas and F. Irvine. Bookings for this programme are heavy and a capacity house is indicated. BLOMFIELD DEFEATS McKAY [BY TELEGRArH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] NEW PLYMOUTH, Sunday With his favourite octopus clamp "Lofty" Blomfield defeated Pat McKay by one fall secured in the seventh round of a wrestling match staged before a capacity house last night. Although McKay wrestled well he was no match for Blomfield, who had tho upper hand practically throughout. ROTORUA BOUT ARRANGED The Rotorua Wrestling Association has arranged a match for next Saturday night between Al Baflert and Abe Yourist. Both men have put up splendid exhibitions against Lofty Blomfield and their spectacular methods have pleased the crowds wherever they have appeared in New Zealand. They should provide Rotorua patrons with good value for their money.
