ENGLISH CUP FINAL
TROPHY WON BY PRESTON EXTRA TIME NECESSARY • (Received May 3, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, April 30 Ninety-three thousand spectators attended the final of tho English Cup competition at Wembley today, when Preston North End defeated Huddersfield by one goal to nil. The King and Queen attended the match. The winning goal was scored in the last minute of extra time from a penalty kick. This was the first time for 3,8 years that extra time had been played in an English Cup final. This is the second occasion on which Preston North End has won the cup, its previous success being against Wolverhampton Wanderers in 38.50. That was the season in which Preston North End won the cup without a goat being scored against it during the competition, and also won the League championship without losing a game, a record which has never been equalled. It is somewhat of a coincidence that when Huddersfield beat Preston North End in the English Cup final in 1922, the only goal scored was from a penalty kick.
