RETURN OF COLONIES
ATTITUDE IN BRITAIN NO FEAR OF WAR OUTBREAK The opinion that the Government and people of Great Britain would be prepared to hand back to Germany some, although not all, of her former colonies was expressed by Mr. R. Everingham, a representative in London for the past four years of Parmer and Company, Limited, Sydney, who is returning to Australia by the Aorangi, which arrived from Vancouver yesterday. It was generally realised that the terms of the Treaty of Versailles were unjust and that they would have been revised years ago had England had her wav, Mr. Everingham said. there was no fear in England of war and tho Government was prepared to go to the utmost limits in the matter of concessions and conciliation to see that no war should occur, he added. As far as Germany was concerned, the average person looked upon Hitler, not as a militarist, but as an idealist seeking to bring all the German people under one rule. When that' ideal was achieved, it was considered that his aggressive measures Would cease. Hitler's ruthless methods could be attributed to the influence of his associates, Goebbels, who maintained that they were the only means by which he would gain his ends, said Mr. Everingham. In his opinion Germany would ultimately become the dominating Power in Europe. It already had Austria within its territories, Hungary and the Sudeten Germans of Czechoslovakia would later be absorbed, Poland would be forced into an alliance and the Ukraine would be annexed from Russia. .
