GOODS SERVICES

OPERATORS WARNED | BREACHES OF REGULATIONS STAND BY AUTHORITY [by telegraph—own correspondent] ROTORUA, Wednesday A warning to goods service operators that if they did not comply with the terms of their licences and committed persistent breaches of the traffic regulations they would risk the revocation of their licences was issued in Eotorua to-day by the No. 1 Transport Licensing Authority, Mr. E. J. Phelan, when tho applications of three operators for amendments of the existing licences were before him. Mr. Phelan questioned each applicant regarding prosecutions against him during the past few months for alleged breaches of the loading limits, and stated that if such offences continued he would have no option but to institute a special inquiry and call upon the operators to show cause why their licences should not be revoked. Operators, he said, who flagrantly exceeded tho loading limits permitted, were doing an injustice to those operators who attempted to conduct legitimate businesses, and would have to bo stopped. Recently, ho had had occasion to revoke the licence of a firm holding five vehicle authorities, and he would not have any compunction in adopting the same course should that be necessary in other cases. Mr. Phelan also intimated that he Snsidered tho time had arrived when e granting of metal cartage licences had reached saturation point in the Rotorua area. In future he intended to adopt the practice of issuing temporary licences whenever it was found that the amount of work available exceeded the number of trucks available. He appealed for more co-operation between licensed operators undertaking this class of service, so that work which could not be handled by one contractor would bo handed over to another.
