' | MODERATE TEMPERATURES The weather report and forecast for New Zealand issued by the Government meteorologist last evening were as follows:—The cyclone off the east coast of the North Island is gradually filling up. A rather deep westerly depression with a long northward extension is advancing across the South Tasman. The forecast is for light to moderate southerly winds prevailing about and north of Cook Strait, but turning gradually to northerlies, elsewhere moderate to strong'north-east to northerly winds. Seas moderate to rather rough with a heavy swell south of East and rising on the west coast of the South Island, elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea:' Moderate to strong northerly winds. Seas moderate to rather rough and rising/ The weather is likely to be cloudy to overcast between Cook Strait and Napier with scattered showers or drizzling rain, but improving elsewhere, fair to fine at first, but clouding over in the western and far northern and southern districts and later rain developing. Temperatures moderate to mild. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST MILD WITH RAIN LATER The Government meteorologist issued to tho Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Winds tending to northerly and freshening somewhat. The weather is likely to be fine at first, but later clouding over with rain developing from the north. Temperatures mild. Seas slight to moderate, but increasing somewhat in the north. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland. —Fine, sunny weather prevailed in Auckland yesterday. Temperatures were mild and there was a light southerly wind. The maximum ternpcraturc was 70 degrees and the minimum 58 degrees. The barometer rose slightly during the day. The barometer fell slowly to 29.87 m. at 5 p.m. DunediD. —The weather was fine with a strong north-east wind in the early morning and a lighter breeze during the day.
