GERMANY'S PUNS 51 NEW WARSHIPS BUILDING UP FLEET BATTLESHIP STRENGTH TOTAL OF 10 VESSELS By Teleprrnph—Press Association —Copyright (Received April 24, 6.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, April 24 According to confidential reports to the United States Navy Department Germany is building up a fleet equal to any in the world on a ship for ship basis, and perhaps superior ; but she will still be inferior, however, to Britain and America as a naval Power. Germany is building or has appropriated for 51 warships, including five super-dreadnoughts, two aircraftcarriers, three heavy cruisers, four light cruisers, 12 destroyers and 25 submarines. At present Germany has five capital ships, six light cruisers, 27 destroyers and ,'36 submarines. Two of the battleships and five of the destroyers are over age. The new battleships will approximate 31,400 tons displacement, but due to German methods of weight-saving in construction they will be the equivalent in size and strength of 40,000-ton ships.
