TEES STILL HELD UP

CREW TO BE PAID OFF GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION } ; OHRISTCHURCH, Saturday Despite the settlement of the original dispute on the Chatham Islands steamer Tees, the vessel did not sail at seven o'clock last night as scheduled, as three firemen gave notice late yesterday afternoon of their wish to sign off, and the managing-director of the company immediately gave instructions for the crew to be paid off. The departure of the vessel has now been held up indefinitely and the men will be paid off on Tuesday, as to-day is a bank holiday. The agents of the company have approached Mr. T. H. McCombs, M.P., who tried to get the Minister of Labour, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, to come to Lyttelton, but this was not possible. The agents have also got-into touch with the secretary of the New Zealand Seamen's Union, Mr. F. Walsh. The settlement of the dispute is now in the hands of the Government, and Mr. McCombs is still negotiating with the Minister.
