TRIBUTE TO MR. MAHON
Although revenue from subscrip- * tions has fallen, as a result of a decline in membership, a profit of £l7 is & disclosed in the annual report of the Auckland Grammar School Old Boys' Association, which will be presented at the annual meeting to be held next Thursday. Regret is expressed concerning the decline in membership and: it is hoped to evolve some scheme by which boys leaving school may be en* couraged to join the association. Paying a tribute to the late Mr. H. J. D. Mahon, for 30 years a master and for seven years headmaster at the school, the report. states: "We all knew him as_a man of high tual attainment, of sound and calm judgment, with a fine sense of justice, of deep and wide sympathy, and abort all of high ideals of character. It was these qualities that always won for him the esteem and affection of'lra ; boys, and enabled him to i fine tradition of the ""school,''. Proposals for approaching old bop for financial support toward the ,construction of a swimming bath at the school have been deferred until some' indication is obtained concerning the Government's control and sidmioistra- '''' tion of the school.
