RUNNING CLOSE BROADBENT'S PROGRESS LITTLE TO BE MADE UP GOOD TIME TO INDIA By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received April 20, 0.5 p.m.) CALCUTTA, April 20 The Australian airman Mr. H. F., Broadbent, who is making another attempt on the solo flight record from Australia to England, arrived at Calcutta early last evening and left again early this morning (local time) for Allahabad.
MR. H. F. BROADBENT He landed at Allahabad at 4.7 a.m., Greenwich mean time, to-day, and left again at 4.40 a.m. for Karachi.
Mr. Broadbent is strenuously contesting Miss Jean Batten's record of five days 18 hours from Darwin to England. At Allahabad he was only one and ahalf hours behind Miss Batten's time for the distance. When Miss Batten made her flight, last October, her time from Darwin to Allahabad was 2 days 8i hours. Mr. Broadbent took about 2 days 10 hours. After covering the next stage, to Karachi, Miss Batten's elapsed time wa3 2 days 16 hours 10 minutes.
