TWELFTH BIRTHDAY TO-DAIY HEIR TO BRITISH THRONE EDUCATION AND TRAINING The most important child in the British Empire, Princess Elizabeth, •will celebrate her 12th. birthday today. Being the elder daughter of King -"George VI, Princess Elizabeth is next in line of succession to the throne and \rill succeed , her father provided His "Majesty does not have a son in the future. The Princess was born on April 21, 1926, in the London house of Lord and Lady Strathmore, after the late King George V had disapproved of the intention of her parents to rent a house in London, as he did not wish a possible heir to the throne to be born in a rented house. Lord and Lady Strathmore therefore placed their house at the disposal -of Their Majesties, then the Duke and Duchess of York. Princess Elizabeth's nearness to the throne was realised by her parents from the day she was born, and they have planned and carried out her nurture and education with a deep sense of the responsibilities that might one day fall on the shoulders of their daughter. From the first, she has been taught, in a manner suited to her tender years, etiquette and deportment. Her self-possessed yet perfectly unepoilt and childish deportment when Ehe appears with her mother in public chows that the training of the little Princess, who may one day be Elizabeth II of England, is proceeding on the right lines for the happiness of herself and of the country over jvhich she may one day have to rule.
